Outspoken former UN weapons inspector in Iraq Scott Ritter visited Boston in February for a presentation and discussion on the Bush administration's secret plans for the "War on Terror," including a possible nuclear attack on Iran. Ritter, who visited Iran on a fact-finding mission, commented, "We are seeing history repeat itself," referring to the disaster in Iraq which he also warned about. Strategies for the peace movement and ordinary Americans to end the war on Iraq and to stop this dangerous move towards expansion of the Iraq war to the whole Middle East were also discussed.

Scott Ritter was a Marine, and a U.S. weapons inspector in Iraq prior to the 2003 invasion. He stated back then that there were no weapons of mass destruction, and that an invasion was totally unwarranted and unnecessary. In 2005 Scott Ritter visited Iran, then wrote a book about his experience there called, "Target Iran. The Truth about the White House plans for Regime Change." For me, the fact that he was so accurate in the Iraq case, means that we should take him seriously when he talks about Iran and the present day American political situation. He did just that on Tuesday night at the West Newton Cinema. This event was sponsored by Newton Dialogs on Peace and War. Before the event, Scott met with members of the alternative press, which consisted of myself for the Boston Community Radio Project, and Jen Adams of Newton Community TV. I asked Scott about fear mongering done by the Bush Administration about Iranian Nuclear capability, even though it is not really true. |
