Veterans For Peace, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Military Families Speak Out, and Gold Star Families observed Memorial Day in Boston-calling for an end to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan now; no more civilian and military deaths; and adequate care for veterans when they return home.

About 100 anti-war veterans and supporters gathered at Columbus Park on Boston's waterfront.Speakers described the awful toll the war has taken on civilians, US soldiers, and their families- over 4000 US deaths, a million Iraqi deaths, and thousands more US veterans wounded and emotionally traumatized from the war. Then, a solemn reading of the names of each of the Massachusetts soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. After each name was read, people one at a time approached a flower covered memorial to the dead, took a flower and tossed it into the Boston Harbor water. Flowers were also tossed into the water for the one million Iraqi dead.

People in the crowd were visibly moved by the emotion of hearing the stories of veterans neglected by our government and the senselessness of the war. The Memorial Day theme of honoring veterans by stopping war reverberated throughout this day's event. Both alternative and mainstream media were present. For more photos go to:
