This past weekend was the annual Art Beat Festival in Davis Sq, sponsored by the Somerville Arts Council. The theme of this year’s event was green – green for the extension of the Green Line through Somerville, and green for environmental awareness.
There was live music on 3 stages, with one of them devoted to Children’s programming. Elm St. and Holland Ave were lined with food and arts and crafts vendors. They were intermingled with socially conscious organizations. One of them was the Somerville-based Bycicle Riding School for Adults and Children. They’ve been getting a lot of main stream media publicity lately, which has generated much interest in their school.

Some attendees at the Art Beat Festival in Davis Sq. Plenty of live entertainment was available, such as the Indie-pop act, Audrey Ryan.
Political activism was in abundance. From both official booths, and street activism. John Spitzer of the Somerville Divestment Campaign, stood on Elm St. handing out flyers about State Ballot initiatives. |
