Boston, Mass.-Dec. 2, 2009:
About 200 anti-war activists rallied on Boston Common in the early evening of Dec. 2 to protest against Obama's announcement of his escalating the US war on Afghanistan. Obama announced in a speech Monday night that he was sending 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Now the US wars are no longer Bush's--they belong to Pres. Obama. In the darkness of the early evening, protesters filled the area on Boston Common outside Park Street station. Speakers included an Afghani-American student, who told the crowd that the US war on her country was disastrous for the Afghani people.
Also speaking at the rally were representatives of Veterans For Peace and Military Families Speakout, as well as a folksinger performing anti-war songs. The protest was jointly organized by United For Justice With Peace and the Boston Stop the Wars Coalition.
