Boston Common-May 1, 2010:
As part of an international day of action for workers and immigrants rights, over a thousand people rallied and marched in Boston.
Speakers representing the labor and immigrant communities spoke out against anti-immigrant legislation and anti-labor corporations.
The Bread and Puppet street theater troupe
portrayed the Haymarket Chicago anarchists from the 1880s, on which May Day was founded.
Boston city councillor Chuck Turner spoke out against racism and militarism, quoting Eisenhower and Martin Luther King. After the speakers , people marched through downtown Boston, to the JFK Federal Building and to the military recruiters office on Tremont St., where a mock die-in took place.
There were also May Day marches in Chelsea, Everett, and East Boston, where many immigrants live.
