For the second Saturday in a row Boston area activists held a demonstration in solidarity with the Egyptian revolt. |
|
About 400 protesters gathered in Copley Square starting at noon to demand that US-supported Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak resign immediately. The mobilization was led by Egyptian and Arab activists, with a wide variety of radicals in attendance. Organizations involved included the International Socialist Organization, Workers World Party, ANSWER, Veterans For Peace, Anonymous, and other socialist groups, as well as a large contingent of local anarchists.
The protest circled Copley Square in between speeches by organizers, amid near-continuous anti-Mubarak chants. Eventually the demo spilled into the street in an unpermitted march to Government Center for another rally. Police presence was minimal. One officer attempted to intimidate protesters into abandoning the street, but was ignored.
The demo was similar in size and intensity to the previous Saturday's protest. Boston Indymedia's overage of that event can be found at http://boston.indymedia.org/feature/display/212309/index.php |
