Nearly 100 protesters gathered yesterday afternoon in front of 20 Park Plaza, home of Boston's Israeli consulate, to express solidarity with the third intifada against the occupation of Palestine. The protest was called by Palestinian activists and local anarchists. Protesters held a variety of signs, banners and Palestinian flags, including one so large that it required eight people to hold it off the ground. |

After about an hour in front of the consulate building, the protest embarked on an impromptu march around Back Bay, chanting loudly. On reaching Newbury Street, protesters took to the street, occupying a lane of traffic as they returned to Park Plaza. Police presence was minimal. Two officers harassed protesters mildly before the march, but then departed.
A small handful of counter-protesters shadowed the march from the safety of the sidewalk, but failed to cause any serious disruption. Spaghetti and bread was provided by Food Not Bombs. |
