Labor Day March in Cambridge
05 Sep 2011
On Monday September 5th, 2011, local union members and their supporters celebrated the power of united workers on Labor Day with a march down Cambridge's busiest street. At 10am, demonstrators gathered outside Cambridge City Hall and by 11am were marching north on Massachusetts Ave 1,000 strong.
The march entered Harvard Square and proceeded into Harvard
Yard. The line of marchers was so long that it completely encircled the
inside of Harvard Yard. The procession left the yard and entered Cambridge
Common on the other side of Mass. Ave. around noontime for a final rally.

The march of 1,000 pro-union demonstrators consisted predominately of UNIT
HERE and SEIU Local 615 union members, unions which represent workers at
Harvard University. Many other unions, such as the Industrial Workers of the
World, and pro-worker groups, such as United Students Against Sweatshops,
were present as well.
