Boston, Mass.-Sept. 3, 2012:
Labor Day 2012--Over a thousand union/labor activists ralled on Boston Common to stand up for the right to a good job and healthcare. In addition, immigrant workers demanded an end to racist anti-immigrant laws.
Organized by a coalition that included Mass. Jobs With Justice and various SEIU locals,
activists listened to inspirational speeches by local politicians and union leaders, then marched to Copley Square led by a spirited brass marching band. The usual intimidating police presence at so many protests did not materialize this time--this observer did not see any police at the rally or march, which was a refreshing change.
