Improvements to the Boston Indymedia Web Site
28 Sep 2013
September 28, 2013 - Boston Indymedia is happy to announce a number of bug fixes and usability improvements to our web site. While further work is ongoing, we feel the site will now be considerably more convenient to use for most visitors.

Read on for details of the work, and thanks for supporting Boston Indymedia!
* Several broken links were removed from the left hand panel and two new local news sites were added to the Other Media Sources list.

* Other minor visual improvements to the left panel. It's now a little wider, the Feature Categories list has been cleaned up, and the Local Radio Shows list has been pruned of canceled shows.

* Quick comments are back! You might have noticed the announcement in the red banner. Now readers can comment on stories without having to fill out the same gigantic form as for full articles. As a result the Comment on this article and View comments links at the top of each article page now work properly.

* You don't have to retype your whole story anymore if you screw up the captcha on the article submission form. It now redisplays the form, all data still filled in, with an error message on top.

* The main font has been enlarged to better accommodate modern high resolution monitors.

* Update September 29, 2013: As can be seen from the appearance of this post, we have restored HTML formatting capability for articles. Bold, italic, and link tags are now supported. Remember to choose Psuedo-HTML from the text format dropdown to enable this option.

* Update 2, September 30, 2013. We have trimmed several unneeded elements from the article submission form, as well as restoring browser-side validation, so that if you omit a required field you are warned the instant you click 'Submit'. Captions can once again be added to images, and the 'Click on image for a larger version' links now actually work as advertised.

* Update 3, October 2, 2013. We have added a 'Printer-friendly version' link to the bar above each story so that articles can be printed without wasting toner. Also, the 'Email this article' links once again work as advertised.

This work is in the public domain.
