Seymour Hersh Speaks in Boston, Predicts Possible Pre-election Falluja Attack
01 Nov 2004
Seymour Hersh spoke to an almost capacity crowd Friday night at the Ford Hall Forum in Faniuel Hall promoting his new book, Chain of Command. The book details the connections between Abu Ghraib and Donald Rumsfeld via the Pentagon. But the terrible actions committed at Abu Ghraib served only as a background for a speech peppered with warnings, predictions, and revelations about the current US administration.

Seymour Hersh Speaks in Boston, Predicts Pre-election Falluja Attack
Among the most rattling was that Iraq was not fought for oil, not at least in the president’s mind anyway. The President, he asserted, is a believer in one of the most simplistic foreign policies in US history. This is a war of ideology, and the President, along with a group of 7 or 8 Neo-Conservatives, truly believed that Iraq would quickly become a flourishing democracy after it was "liberated" and soon Syria, Iran, “Occupied” Lebanon and the others would soon follow. The Q and A session afterwards proved that for most people, stupidity that great was hard to believe.

Hersh also intimated that several people, high up in the military and the executive branch, are very worried that Bush is planning to order an invasion of Fallujah before the election. “It would be a positive thing for Bush in the election.”

If Bush does win, he warned, “Europe will go wild.” The Germans, French, Dutch, and the EU in Brussels will do something about it, perhaps something like not allowing the US to be the sole interlocuter between Israel and Palestine any longer. Already American business overseas dwindling, and a Bush win might mean travel restrictions for Americans.

Kerry asserts that “we can win this.” Hersh reminded the crowd that Kerry is tougher than Bush on Iran, and that he has promised to boost up the police and military budgets. On the issue of building a coalition in Iraq- “I can’t imagine the French or the Germans wanting to change the nationality of the corpses.” Don’t forget that Nixon beat Humphrey saying he had a secret plan to end the war, says Hersh, “and he did, winning it.”

On the budget crisis, Hersh gave a poignant piece of advice “sell short, pack up your bags and move to Italy.” His contacts in the government are telling him “The budget crisis is so much worse than [the public] knows.”

The evening ended with a series of questions from the audience, some from quacks, some from intelligent challengers, and some from young admirers. “Terrorism is horrible, it is awful, it happens.” Says Hersh, summing up his speech, “But it’s not going to defeat the United States. And now they’ve changed the country by playing the fear card.”

Looks like Seymour was wrong. How much did he get paid? I'll tell you what...I'll give hair brained predictions for half the price!

It says, "predicts possible", like he predicts the possibility. He didnt come out and say this was going to happen. He said he was worried it will happen. But if you were watching the news, they were bombing the hell out of Falluja on Nov. 1.

Also - at 1/1,000,000 the price you would still not be a bargain compared to Hersh. THe man has worked his entire life to expose the ill things happening out there like the MyLai massacre in vietnam and now Abu Ghraib.

Read his life's work a bit and then judge.
