Discrimination against People with Criminal Records Begins to Change in Boston
26 Oct 2005
A recent ordinance to stop discrimination against people with criminal records in the city's hiring practices recently passed unanimously in Boston's city council. Activists say that this form of discrimination haunts those who have already served their time, creating a form of post-correctional incarceration when people are denied jobs, housing, and other basic needs. Activists are also saying that this type of dicrimination is deeply connected to racial discrimination. For more on the story, listen to the posted audio file.

You have two job applicants, both equally qualified and experienced.

One served 10 years for a violent felony. The other has no criminal record.

Which one do you hire? Be honest with yourself.

Certain criminals should be discriminated against. The numbskull who got busted frying brain cells by smoking dope should not be allowed behind the controls of an airliner. However, the same knumbskull shouldn't be denied a job where lives are not at stake. A sexual predator should not be allowed to run a day care center. Let's get real here.

Hey Metro Burbs...while it may be argued that he was appointed the first time, he was validly elected the second time around. Were you not paying attention?

Shoeeeaaaahhhh...Dubya stold Ohio with Diebold and his buddies. There are videos showing massive fraud in Ohio. Also, Indiana, Oregon, New Mexico, Florida, and more. Until WE get a paper trail? There is no democracy.
Educate yourself. Then shoot your mouth off.

In 2000 the Diebold, ESS and punch cards, (hanging chads) were the problem. Now? Diebold and ESS are the primary problems. The code for Diebold was on-line for sometime. Many downloaded the code. Go to: http://www.netctr.com/election.html

The truth will set you free!

The problem was twofold:
1. Morons who did not read the instructions
2. Democrat strategists and lawyers who conjured up a false issue.
3. A gullible liberal public who swallowed it hook line and sinker.
Re: Discrimination against People with Criminal Records Begins to Change in Boston

Make that threefold.

"The numbskull who got busted frying brain cells by smoking dope should not be allowed behind the controls of an airliner."

While the numbskull who didn't get 'busted' (but admitted to) frying brain cells smoking dope (and snorting coke and drinking heavily) gets to be President. Funny how that works.

And before Sid the troll jumps up in down in a defensive republican rage, this point holds true for both Clinton and Bush.

In Mass if you take a pee outside and get arrested you not only have that crime on your record, but also HAVE TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER! Now thats about 90% of men, most of us done that. And at least 70% have done some sort of drugs, but havent gotten arrested for it. CORIs are unfair and should be done away with.

As a convicted Felon in the Commonwealth of Massa-chewshits, I have been forced to surrender DNA to the State Police, litterally being cut and bleeding onto a rag so the next time the fascists frame me, they can manufacture 'scientific' proof.

In response to my activism, I recieved an anonymous tip suggesting I check whether my cori record has been illegally accessed.

WOW, This post really does a disservice to the word discrimination and its comtemporary meaining. Most discrimination has to do with unwarranted bias those of race, color, creed Etc. . The very notion that being a convicted criminal is an and being held responsible for voluntary acts that violated law is an insult to those who suffer real discrimination.

There is a problem with minorities and the poor being unfairly targeted by law enforcement. It does need to be addressed. The concept that convicted criminals are being discriminated against is ludacris.

Are you next going to say that sexual offenders can work closely with students in school . Geez whats is up.

CORI check is a great way to keep track of the trash! Would you competent parents out there really allow a level three sec offender teaching your kids? Come on, kids! Listen to what you are saying.

To view hidden comments look on the first page, bottom of right hand column. To contact the editorial staff, look in the upper portion of left hand column, on the first page. You can also check out the editiorial policy to understand why IMC can't be a complete free for all. Also, you're welcome to get involved etc. . . or come to a meeting . . BIMC has lots of projects.

The most interesting thing about hidden comments is the cotes that accompany them. DISRUPTIVE is most often the comment that accompanies a post that does not agree with the mainstream IMC mindset or that of the one and only Sally Shears - and Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band.

Herald report 11/10/05, no problem with CORI record for son of SENATOR Diane Wilkerson, a convicted felon herself, getting a job with the Suffolk County District Attorney as an INVESTIGATOR. His personal experience and that of his mother the SENATOR with the criminal law was a benefit. Why is it that the SENATOR has been so quite about the frame-ups of young black kids by the D.A.? The answer must be found in her son's weekly pay check from the D.A.

In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

I just wrote a letter to senator Fredrick Berry concerning the issue on discrimination of Cori results. I didn't even know there were organizations that were already in effect and yet I wrote this letter from my heart because I have been wrongly accused of a felony and yet was told by word of mouth that I am will be hired just waiting on my cori results. I am in the health field and this employer seen the results of my care for the elderly and was very eager to hire me but when the cori results came in I was told I could not be hired The employer felt bad and said he couldn't hire me because if the state came to check records he would have to fire me right away. So you see, it is very wrong for this cori to stop one from being employed and as a result of being denied I have to work to full time jobs instead of applying for a higher position and just work one job and be able to play my mother duty of six sons. If you would like a copy of the letter sent to the senator please let me know where to send I would be more than happy to share my heart felt feeling on this very hard deep matter. It is a matter of better life or just going through the motions of life.
