Philippines: Don’t revive the “Monster of Morong, Bataan”
Bataan-Nuclear-Power-Plant-Philippines.jpgMonday, 02 February 2009 MANILA, Philippines—For making the public choose between paying more for power generation that they do not need to begin with, and tolerating misplaced priorities where debt service supersedes social welfare, the Freedom from Debt Coalition today urged Congress to stop the planned rehabilitation, re-commission and commercial operation of the controversial Bataan Nuclear Power Plant.

Bank Of America, We're Still Breaking Up!
Rising Tide Boston wishes to announce that the group will continue its part in the widespread campaign to pressure Bank of America to drop its involvement with the coal industry, despite the bank's recent release of a new "Coal Policy". We view this so-called policy as a PR gimmick intended to distract the public from Bank of America's ongoing funding of the coal industry. Bank of America's Coal Policy fails to commit to a timeline or any concrete action to halt their financing of mountain top removal coal mining, and the alternatives the bank pledges to support are not solutions at all.

Novartis Knock Down Day
36.jpgNovartis Knock Down Day is a call for actions against Novartis on Monday, October 27th for being one of Huntingdon Life Sciences’ (HLS’s) largest customers. Without customers of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) there simply would be no Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). The customers pay Huntingdon to test products and carry out research. If Huntingdon lost all their customers then they would have no income and be forced to close. There are only ten companies which give Huntingdon Life Sciences 45% of their income; these include Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Monday, October 27th is Novartis’ day.

Coddling of Palin is False Feminism, Disguised Sexism, and Right-Wing Anti-Working-Women Thatcherism
The call of so-called feminists to coddle Palin is really disguised sexism and based on a medieval, male-chauvinist mentality that women are weak and fragile and should be protected. We don’t need an American Margaret Thatcher, an icon and poster child for right-wing policies that harm poor and middle-class working women, the majority of women. It’s time to expose Palin for what she really is.

Some women groups and advocates are screaming that media bashing of Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is sexism. In truth, their call for media and the rest of the public to go slow in critiquing Sarah Palin is driven by real sexism. They are virtually saying: She’s a woman, who have been oppressed, and so don’t bash her, don’t allow the media and the public to grill her and criticize her sharply, like they do the male candidates. Actually, this kind of thinking smacks of a medieval male chauvinist, sexist mentality that said: Women are weak and fragile, so they should be protected, and put on a pedestal.

DNC Protest, Split, and the Principled Stand of Cynthia McKinney
123 r68-logo.jpg"As the United States activated Navy ships and the Air Force to begin an airlift of non-specified goods into the former Soviet state of Georgia, and military exercises began in the Persian Gulf near Iran, I received communications from certain individuals among the Colorado Greens who were organizing campaign support events there, suggesting that I not participate in an anti-war program being organized by other individuals in Colorado." -Cynthia McKinney

In addition, the Green Party of Colorado has issued false statements to the press and all over the internet claiming that Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney will not be participating in the Recreate ’68 events. Here is one such statement from Dave Chandler, co-chair of the Colorado Green Party, Green Party candidate for U.S. Congress in the Seventh Congressional District, and supporter of a Denver ballot measure that would seize the vehicles of illegal immigrants:

“Cynthia McKinney, Green Party candidate for President, and Rosa Clemente, Green Party candidate for Vice President are NOT participating in any Recreate ‘68 activities. Both candidates, and the Green Party of Colorado, are refuting this announcement and are stating that neither candidate, nor the Green Party of Colorado, are in any way associated with Recreate ’68, nor will any of their candidates be speaking at or attending any event, nor are they in any way associated with the group Recreate ’68.”

This is a blatant lie. Cynthia McKinney and Rosa Clemente will be speaking at the Recreate ’68 events.
