Activists Open 10 Year-Old Roadblock, Again |
|
by Palestine Solidarity Project, |
Israeli and international solidarity activists from the Palestine Solidarity Project joined Palestinians from Beit Ommar, Surif, Al-Jab’a, and Hebron as they moved the massive interlocking cement blocks and boulders, opening a space for Palestinian vehicles to pass through. PSP has organized actions at this roadblock a number of times in the past year, in defiance of the IOF’s attempts to control Palestinian freedom of movement. |

Coup D'Etat Rumblings in Venezuela |
|
by Stephen Lendman, lendmanstephen (nospam) sbcglobal.net |
The Bush administration tried and failed three prior times to oust Hugo Chavez since its first aborted two-day coup attempt in April, 2002. Through FOIA requests, lawyer, activist and author Eva Golinger uncovered top secret CIA documents of US involvement that included an intricate financing scheme involving the quasi-governmental agency, National Endowment of Democracy (NED), and US Agency for International Development (USAID). The documents also showed the White House, State Department and National Security Agency had full knowledge of the scheme, had to have approved it, and there's little doubt of CIA involvement as it's always part of this kind of dirty business. What's worrying now is what went on then may be happening again in what looks like a prelude to a fourth made-in-Washington attempt to oust the Venezuelan leader that must be monitored closely as events develop.

|
by By Andalusia, |
The South American nation of Bolivia has filled the headlines of the global press with their fight against water privatization, struggle for nationalization of gas, non-compliance with free trade policies, and the election of South America’s first indigenous president, Evo Morales. These struggles are rooted in the long history of indigenous resistance to colonialism and imperialism in Bolivia. In an interview conducted during her recent stay in Pittsburgh, subaltern theorist, Aymara sociologist, and historian Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui discussed Bolivian Anarchism, the health benefits of the Coca plant, and the Cocaleros' (Coca Growers') fight for sovereignty.

Peace Outlet |
|
by Sophie Yon-Gharbi, Sophie.Gharbi (nospam) gmail.com |
Ted Ackley, from Rhode Island, came by himself and simply said: “I have a four year-old daughter and I want things to get better, not worse. I want peace on earth.” He then proceeded to hand out pieces of paper with an electric outlet on it… because everyone deserves a peace outlet. |

Protestors Gather to Declare: Protest Is Not TERRORISM! |
|
by Nancy Ryan, boscispes (nospam) speakeasy.net |
On Saturday afternoon, October 6, 2007, under a brilliant sky, fifty activists converged on the plaza in Maverick Square in East Boston, Massachusetts to sound the alarm about events in El Salvador. Led by CISPES and joined by the Cambridge-El Salvador Sister City Project and Centro Presente, the rally was called to bring attention to the arrests of 13 people in Suchitoto for simply speaking out against the government’s water privatization policy. Speakers throughout the afternoon outlined the new anti-terror law under which the thirteen were charged with acts of terror and face up to 50 years in jail for being at or near a lawful protest. |

Latin America Solidarity Lives! |
|
by Shane Stewart, boscispes (nospam) speakeasy.net |
Adam Reilly’s--or shall I say O’Reilly--“Ebbing Radicalism in Cambridge” (Boston Phoenix, 7/25/07) reads like a Fox News Op-ed piece. It’s nothing more than a regrettable attempt to cut down a fellow human who has struggled on the frontlines in Guatemala where the US oversaw and bankrolled a dirty war that cost hundreds of thousands of lives--all while ignoring the actual issues of US intervention, poverty, and violence that continue to thwart justice in Latin America today. |
