Banks Get Bailed Out, People Get Thrown Out |
|
by D (NEFAC-Boston), nefacboston (nospam) nefac.net |
The Esquivel family were evicted Thursday from their home in Roslindale. That same morning they had gone to the Boston Municipal Court in a last effort to stop the eviction. The judge did not rule in their favor. Raul and Anna Esquivel came back from court, tears streaming for their face, to find about 10 police officers on and around their property and another 40 people protesting the eviction. The picket was lively and emotional. Around forty people came out to support the Esquivels. The blockade was called by City Life/Urbana, and supported by many community groups, including Dorchester People for Peace, SEIU 615, the Boston No Eviction Network, the Boston Workers Alliance and others. At one point it appeared that the eviction was going to be called off. To this news, Anna Esquivel danced and people cheered. Yet about 30 minutes later, there was another call saying the eviction was in fact going to take place that same day at 2:30 pm. |

Coverage of the 19th annual anti-drug prohibition rally. Listen to Keith Saunders, the current President of MassCann, the Massachusetts Cannibals Reform coalition, and sponsoring organization of this, the 19th annual Freedom Rally, which took place Saturday, September 20 on the Boston Common. Some people described it as a day of Utopia; beautiful weather, free eclectic music, food and culture vendors, and the ability to light up in public without paranoia. Although the Boston Globe reported 6 arrests, which is way down from years past.

PHILIPPINES: Suspend US Military Deployments to Mindanao |
|
by Citizens’ Peace Watch, |
A broad coalition of NGOs, social movements, and political parties from Mindanao and the rest of the country today called for all US military deployments in Mindanao suspended pending the conclusion of a fair and thorough probe by lawmakers.
The Citizens’ Peace Watch, a group formed to monitor what it fears as the growing and permanent US military presence in the South, reiterated its recommendations from a fact-finding mission it conducted in Zamboanga City and Sulu last February. Members of the mission claim to have seen with their own eyes — and to have pictures of — the US’ military structures inside Camp Navarro in Zamboanga City. |

|
by Chuck U. Rosina, chuck (nospam) wmbr.org |
"Companion" piece to the news report from Boston about Anarchists marking the 81st Anniversary of the execution of Sacco and Vanzetti. That news piece was a straight-told story of the action. This program uses pre-recorded music about Sacco and Vanzetti along with actualities of the event, sometimes edited for the sake of political art. Some of the acts were not included in the original news piece. |

Art Beat '08 |
|
by Chuck U. Rosina, |
This past weekend was the annual Art Beat Festival in Davis Sq, sponsored by the Somerville Arts Council. The theme of this year’s event was green – green for the extension of the Green Line through Somerville, and green for environmental awareness.
There was live music on 3 stages, with one of them devoted to Children’s programming. Elm St. and Holland Ave were lined with food and arts and crafts vendors. They were intermingled with socially conscious organizations. One of them was the Somerville-based Bycicle Riding School for Adults and Children. They’ve been getting a lot of main stream media publicity lately, which has generated much interest in their school.

Queer Liberation and Anarchist Communism |
|
by Thomas Giovanni- NEFAC Boston Local Union, |
As anarchist communists, it is only logical and consistent with our principles in the struggle for a free humanity that we support the personal, cultural, and institutional fight against patriarchy, hetero-sexism, the gender bi-nary system and all other struggles for queer liberation both in themselves and in their intersectionalities with capitalism, the state, white supremacy, and all other forms of human oppression. |

The Mortgage Crisis in the USA |
|
by Randy - Capital Terminus Collective- Atlanta (NEFAC Supporter Collective), capitalterminus (nospam) gmail.com |
Commentators complain of "partisanship" in Washington. Society's problems are said to result from infighting between parties. We should celebrate, then, because Democrats and Republicans have agreed on a plan to end the mortgage crisis. What solution do they offer? Handouts to Big Business, and "fiscal discipline" for the rest. |
