Coalition Forms to Defend Local Abortion Clinics
clinic-protest.jpgSparked by an apparent need to support visitors of Planned Parenthood in the face of anti-abortion harassment, the Coalition to Defend Reproductive Rights formed a few months ago. On Saturday, November 12th, members of the new group stood outside of the clinic on Commonwealth Ave., holding pink banners and blocking the graphic signs of anti-abortion protesters.

Boston plans for the December 1 'Rosa Parks National Day of Absence Against Poverty, Racism and War'
Rosa-Parks.gifPlanning for the Dec. 1 Rosa Parks National Day of Absence jumped into high gear as more than 60 representatives from a broad cross-section of labor and community organizations met on Nov. 5 and agreed to hold a series of militant actions in Boston on Dec. 1 to honor the 50th anniversary of Rosa Parks arrest for her refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama. These Boston actions will be part of the Dec. 1 National Day of Absence against Poverty, Racism and War.

The World Can't Wait: Students Against the War

Concerned Citizens Confront Menino Campaign on Proposed Bioterror Lab
nobiolab6.jpg[Dorchester, MA] During a campaign event at Prince Hall in Dorchester, Mayor Thomas Menino and his supporters were greeted by members of the Boston Direct Action Project (BDAP) dressed in hazmat suits marked “Biohazard,” masks, and gloves. The BDAP members confronted Menino about his support of Boston University’s proposed bio-lab.

Fast for Justice: Providence Janitors Struggle for Union Power
janitors-small.jpgMonday: Over forty union supporters protested in front of the "Turk's Head" downtown office building as five strong-willed people went into their fifth day of fasting today. The fasters, camped out in front of the fancy bank offices since Thursday, are members of SEIU local 615 and their supporters. They want the owner of the Turk's Head building, millionaire landlord Lloyd Granoff, to hire a union cleaning contractor.

Critical Mass Attracts Dragons, Witches, and Lots of Bikes
WitchOn Bike.jpgBoston, MA – A woman with a dragon-face mask and flashing red lights in her seat pedaled down Boylston Street Friday surrounded by witches, Vikings, a man hauling a jack-o-lantern, and various other costumed bicyclists to the enjoyment of onlookers and cyclists. Yesterday’s event brought together approximately 150 local cyclists for the monthly Critical Mass bike ride, an international bicycling movement intended to celebrate urban bike riding.

IUE-CWA Local 201 members ratify agreement with GE
Lynn, MA – Union members ratified a new agreement that will upgrade nearly 300 jobs and help bring new work to Lynn’s River Works. It also creates new opportunities for workers in GE’s Assembly and Test departments to upgrade their skills and improve their pay. The agreement was approved by a 79 percent majority vote at meetings held on October 25 and 26.
