Wobs support Boston School Bus Drivers!

In our latest gesture of solidarity towards our fellow workers of United Steelworkers’ Local 8751, area IWW’s turned out for the school bus drivers’ rally on 6/18/15. We were joined by members of Harvard’s Student Labor Action Movement (SLAM). Boston’s school bus drivers face vicious attacks from the international conglomerate Veolia / Transdev, infamous for running segregated bus services in occupied Palestine, privatizing water to squeeze the poor, and union-busting.

Rights Groups Sue for Proper Treatment of Hepatitis C in State Prisons
BOSTON, MA – Hundreds of prison inmates are in danger of losing their lives because the Department of Correction refuses to provide the medicine that will cure their potentially fatal disease. A class action lawsuit filed in federal court today by lawyers for the National Lawyers Guild and Prisoners Legal Services says it is Massachusetts’ legal responsibility to provide adequate medical care to state prisoners. Urszula Masny-Latos, Executive Director of the Massachusetts chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, said: “It is the responsibility of the state, which spends millions to incarcerate thousands of people, to provide adequate medical care for them. Without such care, many of them will develop serious complications of this disease, and some will die.

Mass. NLG Launches FOIA Lawsuit Against Boston Police and BRIC
Boston, May 21, 2015 — On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) filed a lawsuit with Suffolk Superior Court against the Boston Police Department (BPD) and its Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) for their violations of the Massachusetts Freedom of Information Act (MassFOIA).

The lawsuit claims that both BPD and BRIC systematically violated at least three provisions of MassFOIA by: (1) refusing to release documents, (2) not responding to information requests within a 10-day period, and (3) charging prohibitive fees for requested documents.

Devastated Nepal Daily Pays $600,000 on Debt
Nepal underwent another earthquake on May 12 amid recovery from the April 25 quake. It owes billions of dollars of debt to the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and foreign lenders. Anti-poverty organization Jubilee USA Network states that debt relief would aid Nepal's recovery efforts.
