Friendly Neighborhood CopsAs the president of the World Bank spoke at MIT’s graduation, activists engaging in a legal march against the World Bank’s poverty promoting policies were confronted by a battalion of riot cops. They prevented the activists from exercising their right to free speech anywhere close to the graduation ceremonies.

IRAQ: Vigil for Iraq; Former Weapons Inspector Argues War is Unnecessary
From 5:30 to 6:30 on 5/21/02 in Copley Square, about fifty people held a vigil opposing the sanctions on and the possibility of a wider war with Iraq. After the vigil, Scott Ritter, former chief weapons inspector in Iraq for the UN, argued that war with Iraq was unnecessary as there is no evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction any more.
