Military Families Release Homemade Video to Challenge War Propaganda
vetsday0603.jpgThursday, Military Families Speak Out (based in Jamaica Plain) and Gold Star Families Speak Out members picked up a video camera and made a one and one-half minute piece to counter and challenge a $15 million ad campaign to push the Bush administration's Iraq war agenda.

Celeste and Dante Zappala produced a home made video and posted it online to counter-act a national campaign launched by Ari Fleischer, former press secretary to President George W. Bush, and its advocacy group Freedom's Watch, to pressure Congress to continue funding the war.

Sacco and Vanzetti--The Case that Will Not Die Nor Should It
sacco.gifThis year, 2007, is the 80th anniversary of Sacco and Vanzetti's execution. Those familiar with the radical movement know that at least once in every generation a political criminal case comes up that defines that era. One thinks of the Haymarket Martyrs in the 19th century, the Rosenburgs in the post-World War II Cold War period and today Mumia Abu-Jamal. In America after World War I when the Attorney General Palmer-driven ‘red scare’ brought the federal government’s vendetta against foreigners, immigrants and militant labor fighters to a white heat that generations case was probably the most famous of them all, Sacco and Vanzetti.

Second Year Commemoration of Hurricane Katrina: Music and Politics
Flyer image.jpgThe Hot 8 Brass Band continues their tour of the United States and abroad with their next stops to occur at Boston’s famous Wally’s Jazz Café and the 12th annual Cambridge Caribbean Festival. The Hot 8 are a part of the Finding Our Folk Tour, which was created after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. The Hot 8 Brass Band; themselves, displaced after Hurricane Katrina through their music helps reconnect people throughout the country and world to the rich traditions, history and culture of New Orleans.

Latin America Solidarity Lives!
wae_justicia.jpgAdam Reilly’s--or shall I say O’Reilly--“Ebbing Radicalism in Cambridge” (Boston Phoenix, 7/25/07) reads like a Fox News Op-ed piece. It’s nothing more than a regrettable attempt to cut down a fellow human who has struggled on the frontlines in Guatemala where the US oversaw and bankrolled a dirty war that cost hundreds of thousands of lives--all while ignoring the actual issues of US intervention, poverty, and violence that continue to thwart justice in Latin America today.

svflyer.jpgSacco and Vanzetti 80th anniversary of their judicial murder. No more raids on migrant workers! No more death penalty! No more war on immigrants! No more war, period!

This August, Boston will remember the 80th anniversary of the execution of radical Italian immigrants Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti whose trial is widely regarded as one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in American history. Calling attention to the continued repression of immigrants and radicals, the Sacco and Vanzetti Commemoration Society invites all to attend and participate in planned events.

Vicious Police Attack on IWW Solidarity March in Providence
providence.jpgOn Saturday, August 11, 2007, Alexandra Svoboda, a member of the labor union Industrial Workers of the World, was brutally assaulted by North Providence Police officers as she was peacefully demonstrating with a group of fellow union members and supporters in support of workers at HWH/Dragonland in New York City. She was attacked while she was complying with orders given by the NPPD to move towards the sidewalk. Alexandra was then tackled and brutalized by the officers, suffering a grotesquely broken and dislocated knee and a ruptured vascular artery. She is currently recovering from her first operation at the Rhode Island Hospital and is awaiting a second surgery scheduled for Wednesday.
