Call for the formation of neighborhood anarchist collectives and projects
cambridge.jpegBAAM Boston would like to encourage all Boston area anarchists and anti-authoritarians to form collectives, organizations, or projects in their neighborhoods and schools. We encourage these groups to first organize themselves, and then tackle the issues present in their neighborhoods and communities.

Learn about ongoing struggles, and get involved. Start new projects against oppression and exploitation, and invite your neighbors.

The Boston Globe Must Cover the Crisis at CPCS
newsletter-button_000.jpgThe most diverse college within the most diverse university in the Northeast, the UMass Boston College of Public and Community Service (CPCS), is in serious risk of destruction at the hands of its own Dean (supported by the UMass Boston Provost and Chancellor). For months, the CPCS community has tried to get serious coverage of this crisis in the Boston Globe, and has been repeatedly rebuffed. Now the CPCS community is demanding coverage, through this petition, after providing statistics demonstrating that the Boston Globe has an established pattern of seriously underreporting events at UMass Boston--a large public college--when compared to its generous coverage of large private colleges in the Boston area.

"We Are Jews Who Stand for Humanity!"
DSC00179.jpgBoston, Mass. – Four weeks after their first demonstration against The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP), American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) who claim that the Jews of Boston are united in their support of Israel, 30 people gathered once again in front of 126 High Street to speak out: “Not in our name”, or as some Israeli Refusers have been known to chant: “Not with our bodies”.

Checking the Ingredients of Private Health Insurance
feature54.gif
A potentially sickening, if not fatal, flaw in the Mass Health Plan is that private insurers are still involved. They have motive and corporate duty to provide as little service as possible, for as much cost as possible --- for starters.

Of all the health plans being suggested and tried in attempts to fix the disastrous, homicidal, inhumane, abysmally costly current U.S. health system, the worst by far are the ones that compel or coerce citizens to purchase insurance from private, for-profit insurance businesses. This monster has arisen in Massachusetts and is threatened in Vermont, Rhode Island and elsewhere.

Beyond the Living Wage: A New Challenge for Progressives
cover_art.jpg
Over the past dozen years, probably no grassroots campaign has excited progressives more and generated more real victories than the living wage movement.

Over 120 communities, big and small alike, have now enacted ordinances that require businesses that win government contracts to pay a living wage. These victories have made an undeniable impact. Low-wage workers from Baltimore to Los Angeles have seen their annual take-home pay rise by hundreds, even thousands, of dollars.

Lessons from Katrina: One Year Later
DSC09846.jpg“The source of the flood is not the water; it's gentrification,” said Keric Johnson from the Builders Guild at a rally yesterday in Roxbury organized by the Rosa Parks Human Rights Day Committee to remember the ongoing suffering of the people of New Orleans from Katrina and its aftermath. “The land belongs to the people. It isn’t the water that drove us away, it’s the globalization of the economy, it’s the end of the post-industrial cities. We need to build a damn ourselves.”
