Third Death Procession Successful
biolab 007.jpgOn Monday, July 31, six Boston-area locals helped spread the word to other community members (and tourists) about the biolab and the dangers it poses to residents and visitors to our city. Unlike previous awareness-raising events by Operation: Over, this time participants also held a banner reading "Oppose the BU Biolab" at busy intersections (below). The event began at 4pm at the Park Street T Stop, proceeded down Tremont, stopped on the corner with Boylston (displaying the banner), continued to Copley where the banner was brought out again. By 7pm people had gone their separate ways, though one participant continued flyering back to Park Street.

Stop the Bombing of Lebanon Protest (Photo Essay)
04.jpgSeveral hundred Lebanese-Americans, religious leaders and concerned citizens gathered in Copley square Friday for a demonstration demanding an immediate end of the humanitarian and economic catastrophe in Lebanon as a result of Israel’s bombing and invasion of the country.

Supporters lined the streets waving red and white Lebanese flags and holding signs and banners denouncing Israeli aggression and killing of civilians. A heavy storm moved in halfway through the rally but most of the demonstrators stood their ground singing, chanting and dancing in the pouring rain.

Little Resolved at BU Biolab Hearing
00047.jpgThe latest hearing yesterday for the controversial Boston University bioterrorism lab had lawyers for both sides haggling like vendors in a market bazaar. Much of the debate focused on the timing of future hearings and judicial review.

With construction already begun and an additional $35 million in federal funds scheduled to be released to BU in September, Judge Patti B. Saris worried that she would not have enough time to make an informed ruling before the issue was moot. "How do you expect me to rule by then?" she said. "I'm not an ATM machine."
