Battle of the Corp-Bots!--Kerry (& Bush's) Conservative Funders
Cover Story from the First issue of our Newspaper, "The Boston Independent", now available all over town. (check your local bettega, cafe, laundromat, bar, etc)

Most of the major contributors to John Kerry’s presidential campaign are corporations or employees of corporations that have ties to a network of organizations dedicated to moving the Democratic Party to the right. These organizations, which include the Democratic Leadership Council, the New Democrat Network, and the Progressive Policy Institute, are dedicated to pursuing a policy agenda that includes support for high levels of military spending and an aggressive role for the U.S. military around the world. Kerry has a history of political links to these organizations as well, and though he has been using progressive rhetoric during his campaign, the details and nuances of his positions indicate that Kerry is still dedicated to pursuing their conservative agenda.

Protestors to DNC Delegates: Free Palestine!
On Monday evening, delegates arriving at the Democratic National Convention were greeted by the sight of two to three hundred people rallying in the controversial fenced-in demonstration zone. The rally, “We All Pay for the Occupation of Palestine,” was sponsored by United for Justice with Peace (UJP) and the Boston Committee for Palestinian Rights. “Welcome to the cage” said the opening speaker. “Our Palestinian brothers and sisters live in a cage.” To cheers and applause, the speakers’ messages were clear: end the occupation of Palestinian land and tear down the illegal 25-mile long wall that the Israelis are erecting to contain the Palestinians.

Two Reports From Sunday's People's Party in Jamaica Plain
BostonSunEve 001.jpgJamaica Plain progressives weren't invited to the Democratic National Convention, but they weren't going to be left out of the fun. The Kucinich for President campaign teamed up with Fund the Dream, Project Hip Hop, the Jamaica Plain Action Network, and United for Justice with Peace to spend the eve of the convention in their own community, with music, speakers, comedians, food and a march through the streets. The event attracted several hundred participants, some from Jamaica Plain, and others who came to Boston to attend progressive events centered around the DNC.

Second Day of Protests, July 26th
theater.jpgThe main theme of the protests in the morning and afternoon was in defense of civil liberties and against police brutality. A dramatic, thirty-person street theater-style action took place at 9:30 am in the fenced in “Free Speech Zone”, while a 200-400 person march against the PATRIOT ACT and police brutality lasted from 10:00 am-3:30 pm. The evening saw another protest in the “Free Speech Zone”, this one in defense of Palestinian rights, as well as a protest by the pro-gay marriage group Don’tAmend.Com against a reception for DNC delegates.

Complete Recap of Monday's March for Civil Liberties and Against Police Brutality
nion_pledge.jpgA detailed recount of Monday's march for civil liberties and against police brutality. About 400 people marched from the Boston Common towards the Fleet Center, site of the Democratic National Convention. The corporate media was swarming everywhere. The police were surprisingly restrained, given how they been behaving lately, such as in Miami and Georgia. The end of the march was disorganized, since there was no clear plan about what to do when we reached the protest pen.

Look Out CNN! Anarchists are Gonna Get Your Mama!--How the Media Demonizes Radical Dissent
As the political conventions come closer, Boston and New York's law enforcement brace for protests. In their battle to protect the citizenry from itself, police and FBI (with the help of a lap dog media) are using an age-old tactic: Demonize the Anarchists! I was listening to CNN Radio in my home this morning when a broadcaster started a new story on yet a new "elevated terror threat.” This time, the "threat" was centered around an "unconfirmed" report that a domestic group had plans to attack the media at the upcoming Democratic National Convention. Who was this menacing group? The anarchists. This is nothing new. The anarchists have never had a fair shake as far as the media is concerned.

One Activist's Experience of Being Searched on the T
My experience riding the T and getting searched and questioned about activites in Boston: After walking near the so-called "soft zone" and attempting to leave the area, I headed towards Haymarket station to catch the T. After making it past the turnstile, a cop signaled to me and had me go through my backpack in front of him. Guised as small talk, he proceeded to question me about what I was reading (I had one book on police brutality and another on anarchism), if I was in Boston to see the convention, and where I went to school.
