A new mortality report from the International Rescue Committee says that as many as 5.4 million people have died from war-related causes in the Congo since 1998. A staggering 45,000 people continue to die each month, both from the conflict and the related humanitarian crisis. Amidst the deadliest conflict since World War II, hundreds of international corporations have reaped enormous profits from extracting and processing Congolese minerals. BOSTON-AREA MUSICIANS FOR PEACE - a coalition of artists and activists who donate their talents and time to raise public awareness and funds for local peace groups, invites the community to honor members of VETERANS FOR PEACE, Smedley D. Butler Brigade – & and THE DEMOCRACY CENTER - for the work they do promoting peace in the world.

A benefit concert featuring Chuck Williams, Beth DeSombre, the Lenny Solomon Band and Michael Troy will be given Saturday, February 9, 2008 (doors 7:30pm, concert 8:00pm) at The Democracy Center, 45 Mt. Auburn St. (Harvard Square), Cambridge, MA. Directions:
