Worcester’s War Against the Poor

Panhandling Press Conference Small.jpgThe City of Worcester recently unveiled billboards across the City, promoting the new “Panhandling is not the Solution” marketing campaign. Billboards are just part of Worcester’s multi-media campaign to crackdown on Worcester’s eight panhandlers. The campaign also includes street signs, fliers, radio psa’s, TV, street signs and soon supermarket checkout handouts. Great use of time Worcester!

The anti-panhandling initiative is just part of an ongoing assault on those who are poor which also includes never-ending attacks on the PIP shelter, the growing anti-social service agency campaign, and efforts to ‘sterilize’ the front and back of Worcester City Hall.

At the Lucy Parsons Center, 549 Columbus Avenue in the South End neighborhood of Boston Indymedia is presenting two films. "Testimonies from Falluja" with narrative by Dahr Jamail and "War Photographer" a documentary about the incredible James Nachtwey. Descriptions of the fims are below. Show time is 7pm! Free! Free! Directions


By train/public transportation: Take the Orange Line to the Mass Ave. stop, or the Green "E" line to the Symphony stop. Walk south on Mass Ave for a minute or two. Go left onto Columbus Avenue for 1-1/2 blocks. Lucy Parsons Center will be on the left.


By bus: Take the #1 Dudley/Mass Ave bus to the corner of Columbus Avenue and Mass Ave. Walk east on Columbus Avenue 1-1/2 blocks. Lucy Parsons Center will be on the left.


By car, from Storrow Drive: Exit at Copley. Go left at the light, onto Arlington Street. Continue approximatley five blocks until Columbus Avenue. Go right onto Columbus Avenue for approximately eight blocks. Lucy Parsons Center will be on your right. If you reach Mass Ave, you've gone one block too far.


From I-93 N or S: Take the Storrow Drive exit. Continue 1-2 minutes on Storrow and exit at Copley. Go left at the light, onto Arlington Street. Continue approximatley five blocks until Columbus Avenue. Go right onto Columbus Avenue for approximately eight blocks. Lucy Parsons Center will be on your right. If you reach Mass Ave, you've gone one block too far.

Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?

Unfortunately, the mindset and the mass media fall heavily under the spell of the wolves that prey upon the innocent. Roy the Wolf terrorized Cape Bretoners in the 1920's and now Paul the Wolf is doing the same thing on a much larger scale.
