US Congress prepares legal sanction for spying program
20 Feb 2006
Negotiations are under way between the White House and congressional leaders to pass legislation that will provide a pseudo-legal sanction for the Bush administration’s domestic spying program. Meanwhile, the administration and Congress are working to ensure that whatever investigations into the program are carried out, they will be nothing more than whitewashes for what is a vast expansion of the intelligence powers of the US government.
Among the various proposals that are being put forward in the Senate and House, no major figure in either political party is calling for an end to the National Security Agency program, the existence of which was first revealed in December. Rather, the discussion is over what mechanism would be best suited to give it a greater legal sanction. The acceptance that the program is necessary and must continue comes in spite of the fact that the White House has refused to reveal any details about what exactly the program is and what information is being collected.

Anti-Muslim cartoons: an act of muslim
20 Feb 2006
Modified: 12:45:05 PM
The escalating controversy over provocative politically a motivated racist
cartoon of the Prophet of Islam published in European newspapers has exposed
secular pretensions and racism of Christian dominated so-called “Western” media
elite. These cartoons reveal double standards and hypocrisy of the West. The protests against these cartoons are equally politically motivated and reveal sense of alienation and frustration among Muslim masses the world over and exclusivist mind-set of Muslims. It also exposes the impotence of Muslim regimes before “Christian West” in possession of WMD. </p>

Arab Port Deal Distorted for Political Gain
20 Feb 2006
Recently, 8,600 U.S. companies have been taken over by foreign ownership, while 20 percent of all U.S. assets are held by foreigners. The politicians were silent. Now, a United Arab Emirates’ enterprise will soon be operating stevedoring companies in six U.S. ports, including Baltimore’s. Its Mayor, Martin O’Malley, almost broke a blood vessel complaining. However, he didn’t say a word while the preceding British outfit was doing the work. Go figure!

"Accuracy in Media" Validates Goering's Axiom
20 Feb 2006
Why, of course, the people don't want war...But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship

[Democratic] voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country." --- Hermann Goering

Complete liberty of contradiction and disproving our opinion is the very condition which justifies us in assuming its truth for purposes of action; and on no other terms can a being with human faculties have any rational assurance of being right --- John Stuart Mill (from, On Liberty)

20 Feb 2006
Modified: 04:03:12 AM
"Outside the event, a few protesters carrying signs campaigned against what they called the Israeli occupation of Palestine.

"The Israelis haven't complied with hundreds of U.N. resolutions of the years to get it to end the
occupation of Palestine and comply with human rights law," said protester Xxxxx Xxxx.

"Before they create their own resolutions, they should have to comply with past ones … Israel needs to get out of the West Bank and Palestine - it's creating another Holocaust."
