As John Kerry becomes more of a serious contender for US president in the opinions of the main stream media, the drug war rages on. Taking a liberal or leftist position at this time would not be politicaly correct for Kerry.

Democratic Party delegates supporting presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich struck a deal this weekend with representatives of John Kerry over the Party's stance on the Iraq war. The deal happened this weekend at the Democratic Party Platform convention in Miami. Kucinich's delegates withdrew their proposal for a quick withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

What are you up to on Wednesdays at noon? What are you up to on September 15? Some friends and I have gathered to form the Inter-University Coalition for Peace, and we're reaching out to all of you to give us your ideas, your feedback on this endeavor, and - most of all - to join up. How do you feel about meeting for weekly vigils to observe the situation in Iraq, commemorate those who have lost their lives, and share your thoughts on addressing international politics?

Part of the goal is more unity, more coordination for the left. We could use your feedback; e-mail me (mbrookes (at), and I'll be sure to respond.

There is a lot of talk going back and forth on progressive forums lately about using this election to make a statement, by not voting for Kerry. Some even go so far as to suggest voting for Bush because, if Kerry wins, too many people will go back to being complacent, whereas, if Bush wins, things will get so bad that the majority of Americans will finally wake up and realize the error of their ways. It's time people took a look at reality.
