Human Rights Watch today condemned the Sunday arrest of more than 20 political activists for taking part in a meeting at a private house in Tehran. The arrests were ordered by the Tehran Revolutionary Court-Branch 26 and as of this time the charges against and the whereabouts of the detainees remain unknown.

Human Rights Watch today condemned the Iranian government’s prosecution of fifteen members of the National Religious Alliance (Melli Mazhabi) before a Revolutionary Court as a violation of their basic rights to freedom of expression and freedom of association. Iran Blocks Overseas Education for Women (english)

Iran's Guardian Council should withdraw its objections to women receiving equal access to higher education abroad, Human Rights Watch said today. A bill to lift the 20-year limits on women studying abroad was scuttled last week by the Guardian Council, the conservative body that must vet all legislation for compliance with its view of Islamic precepts.

Iran: Release Detainees from Iran Freedom Movement (english)

Human Rights Watch today called for the release of twenty six members of the Iran Freedom Movement (IFM) who are due to go on trial on November 11 in Tehran.
All twenty-six face charges of "acts against national security" and planning to "overthrow the system." The trial will be held in Tehran's Revolutionary Court, where proceedings fall short of international fair trial standards, Human Rights Watch said.
