“This is not the time for PCGG to abdicate its responsibility to the people, to Philippine democracy.”
That was the statement Akbayan released following the news that the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) recommended Malacanang to allow the agency "to wind down operations" running after the ill-gotten wealth of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his family after almost 27 years.
There are many dirty aspects when it comes to maintaing our government. The people we elect and those they appoint are often forced to negotiate with, deal with, make friends with (though I don't know how you can force a person to be friends with another person) and forge and maintain alliances with some really awful people. We see it happening all the time with foreign dictators. We have alliances with certain dictators, and have even backed dictators coming to power in various regions, regardless of our founding fathers creed of trying to spread freedom, liberty and democracy.
