Wednesday morning Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), introduced a bill to create a new debt relief mechanism for Puerto Rico and other US territories. Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) are cosponsors of the bill. The bill gives territories the option to terminate their non-pension debt. The bill also creates an audit commission to study the causes and sources of the debt.
