BOSTON INDYMEDIA WAR NOTICE OBSCURED BY BACKGROUND (english)
24 Feb 2003
Modified: 25 Feb 2003
Why is the VITAL PROTEST RESPONSE to the WAR START on the upper left hand corner of your Boston Indymedia front page written in an almost impossible to READ black on a DARK BROWN background ?
Why is the VITAL PROTEST RESPONSE to the WAR START on the upper left hand corner of your Boston Indymedia front page written in an almost impossible to READ black on a DARK BROWN background ? Why would anyone in BOSTON INDYMEDIA want to make the WAR ACTION NOTICE [REPRINTED BELOW ] a less Visible almost Dark Blend of background and print ?

FROM THE UPPER LEFT HAND OF THE BOSTON INDYMEDIA PAGE in case you didn't notice it. ::

"Emergency Anti-war Demonstrations
There will be a city-wide student walk-out at noon on the school day after the bombing starts.

There will be a demonstration in Government Center at 5:00pm, and another starting at Copley Square at 6:30pm the day after the bombing starts."

sorry about that (english)

It was very legible on the monitor I first added it on. I agree that it could stand to be lighter, so I've lightened it. I hope it's legible for you now. I think it may be a problem with your monitor though because it was very much red, not brown. it was an orangish red, the same as the links on the rest of the site.

Why Not just make as Legible as Possible ? (english)
25 Feb 2003
If it's my monitor (one of those lousy 2002 HPs) then this page is the ONLY page that I have had trouble reading text on. So perhaps my monitor is just incompatible with Boston indymedia. But Really why not make it Very clearly legible? Is it a stong aesthetic preference that causes you not to be concerned that it be as legible, as at least the Black on Grey is here?

I can't think of a MORE IMPORTANT NOTICE than What to do and WHEN AND WHERE to be when the WAR STARTS. Why would you even consider making it anything LESS than the Most Contrasting Print and background you could?

Perhaps you don't regard that notice as important as I do?
...yup (english)

huh... yeah, I guess I'd get a new monitor then. I'm sorry to hear that it's not compatible with our web site. I've made the background a little lighter, hopefully this is an adequate work-around for your monitor. Perhaps you should tell HP to not discriminate against us.

I understand your urgency, but seriously, the background is how it is to contrast it from the rest of the site. The standard on contrast is not very specific. you can read it here: http://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/#gl-color
