"WE ARE MANY, THEY ARE FEW," MIGHT WELL BE THE SLOGAN OF THE
ONGOING SUMMIT OF THE NON-ALIGNED MOVEMENT (NAM), which
represents 114 nations.

There are 62 heads of state or government
at the summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the most ever,
according to reports.

Since 50 are also members of the Organization of
Islamic Conference (OIC), it was decided to seize the opportunity
to hold a meeting of that organizaiton as well -- all in the
hopes of mobilizing to stop a war against Iraq.

South African President Thabo Mbeki, outgoing chairman of
the NAM, warned in his address to the opening session, that a war
against Iraq would bring massive suffering, casualties, and
destabilization.

"It will increase instability in the Middle East and the world,"
he said.

"It will deliver a deadly blow to the
poor of the world, who will have to bear the additional pain of
growing impoverishment." He added that in the name of peace and
stability, Iraq should cooperate fully with the UN inspections
"to satisfy all humanity that she has no weapons of mass
destruction."

Reportedly, Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri is in attendance.
