International Socialist Organization Boston Student Branch will be holding a meeting on Thursday October 26th 7:30pm at
Northeastern University Curry Student Center - Rm. 342 to discuss why the death penalty should be abolished. |
What’s Wrong With The Death Penalty?
A Whole Lot.
Despite the obvious moral and ethical problems arising from the state determining who is killed:
The death penalty has proven itself not to be a deterrent to homicide
Execution has shown itself to cost taxpayers more than life imprisonment
Capital trials have shown to have a 68% error rate
The poor are provided with incompetent legal representation which often leads to their conviction
Prosecutor misconduct and withholding of evidence is common in capital cases
Police misconduct and pressuring of witnesses and defendants is common in capital cases.
Race has proven itself to be an issue. An African-American man is 4 times more likely to be given the death sentence for the same crime than a white man.
Of prisoners on death row, 82% were convicted of cases involving white victims
70% of countries have abolished the death penalty, but the US has not
The US is the last industrialized country to retain the death penalty
Come learn the facts that Al Gore and George W Bush won’t tell you about this unjust and ineffective system, and what must be done to end it once and for all.

Please Don't Feed the Trolls
Wikipedia defines an Internet Troll as: "An Internet troll is either a person who sends messages on the Internet hoping to entice other users into angry or fruitless responses, or a message sent by such a person." Boston IMC strives to provide both a grassroots media resource as well as a forum for people to contribute to a meaningful discussion about local issues. Please, when posting comments, be respectful of others and ignore those trying to interrupt or discourage meaningful discourse. Thank you.
