Latest Direct Action Dublin Ireland. (english)
02 Apr 2003
About 19:00 GMT, 2 pm EST riot police were called in to break up protesters outside the Irish Houses of Parliament.
Dublin Ireland: Antiwar protesters have blocked the gates of Leinster House ( seat of the Irish Parliament) by locking arms and sitting down on the roadway. Gardai and riot police were called and started to drag protesters away. Some arrests have been made.

The use of Shannon airport by the US military is seen by many as supporting the US in the war on Iraq and as a breech of Irelands neutrality.

It was reported tonight on that TD Joe Higgins (Socialist Party) was dragged off by 4 or 5 riot police. Mr. Higgins is a very vocal opponent in the Dail (House of Representatives) against the US governments military use of Shannon airport.

There have been numerous Iraq antiwar demonstrations throughout Ireland in the past months. The latest in Dublin on 29/03, saw between 30,000 and 50,000 people march.
