Emergency Flood Relief! Help Needed! -- PLEASE READ
07 Jun 2006
Hey everyone –

As many of you may know, there has been a small group of us living in Andover, MA doing flood relief for the surrounding communities in a collective called Waters Rising. We have been doing this for the past month now, with only a small number of people with occasional volunteers.

Things are not getting better here. It will not stop raining, and as you all know, FEMA and Red Cross are not helping people at all. The situation is urgent. We haven’t had time to send out updates about the situation here because we have been extremely busy – so this is going to have to be it. Included is an email we just received from a woman whom we just talked to. She needs help. She needs volunteers.

I don’t know what ya’ll are doing in Boston, but I can assure you, this is an emergency situation and if any of you can take a day or so off and come up to Andover to help this woman, please call me at 858-342-1765.

With love and in solidarity,
alia
Waters Rising Collective

Hello,

I am a single mother of 3. We lost everything in the flood. We had a
finished basement and my kids bedrooms were downstairs. And our roof
leaked and caused a lot of damage. I am looking for help in restoring
this mess to a home. I can get the materials needed I can't physically
do the work, some examples, ny roof needed to be re-shingled and new plywood needs to be put on (my house is small 24 x44 ranch, straght across no extras. The sub floor in my basement fell down and needed to be removed. From spending the last 3 weeks mopping up my yard is becoming a jungle with over grown plants I need removed. I bought paint to paint our house, but Ihad to spend it on our emergency needs. The roof leaking caused water spots to form on my ceilling.

I feel so helpless, I can't fix everything and don't even have a home
for my children, I miss them so much. We are use to living on a tight budget (the childrens father doesn't pay support or have anything to do with them, it breaks my heart, my child don't deserve this) we were not prepared for this, my house has never flooded and now we lost everything we owned in a flood. It still doesn't seem real. It has ripped apart my house and my family. I have spent hour at the fema releif tent and I have no services started, I get very vague answers to my question. Everyday I lose more and more and I don't know how I am going to fix my house and bring my daughters home to me.

Please let me know if you can offer us any assistance. It would be
very very appreciated. God BLESS ALL THE VOLUNTEERS
Thank you,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Please note: This is an email we just received this morning. This does not include other families we have been helping who are in extremely similar situations.

Great work, Waters Rising! I know y'all are busy, but if any of y'all find any time to summarize what you've been doing and post a short news article about it, it'd be great. Even just short tallies, like what kind of supplies you've been using, what work exactly you've been doing, what injuries or legal needs you've encountered, it'd be really useful for all of us who are thinking and working along the same lines. Really wish I could come up and lend a hand, anti-authoritarian disaster relief and recovery is something we all should be preparing for and doing. Yer an inspiration.

Bulldoze the city, round up the drug dealers and illegals and start over.

If all the drug dealers and illegals are "relocated" there will only be a small number of people left! Maybe we could distribute them to surrounding communities and use the space for a giant farm?

"Anti-authoritarian disaster relief?" What is that? Everyone packs the pipe, gets cooked and then attempts to help and work together as an untrained, unequipped, disorganized mob?
Have you attended any rallies lately in the Commonwealth? We can't even get our act together at a small rally and you want to recommend or assist with AADR?

Off topic but does present something to think about.

Yeah, you know what, that's EXACTLY what we do. Nobody has teared up and cried thanking us for our work. It's not like we cleared out a senior citizen's basement when NO ONE else would help. It's not like we're gutting a single mother of three's house, without any help from FEMA (who denied her claim, saying that the $100,000 worth of damage she's suffered is not sufficient enough.) For the record, anti-authoritarian disaster relief means that we are equal in the collective.

First mistake is "living" in Lawrence! Second issue is - does this single mother of three know her babie's daddys where-abouts? All three of them spending a nice vacation in Middleton?

Assisting with flood relief in Lawrence has been rewarding and productive. Lawrence is known for its problems yet there is still a few good people left there. Let's try not to lump all the trash in with the good people!

Lawrence (and Massachusetts) would be better off if the whole town just floated away and took all the drugs and illegals with it!
