correction: APRIL 11 rally at copley (english)
12 Apr 2003
i don't know what i was thinking: "March 11". sorry, folks - clearly i meant April 11. anyway the article follows.
so it was my understanding that the Boston Campus Anti-War Coalition was holding a rally yesterday at copley to continue with a visible war resistance effort here in boston. the news media was there. the cops were there. the only thing missing were actual protestors.

i showed up a little after 4pm (the scheduled meeting time) and found one other person who had showed up to support the effort. granted, it was raining, however it occurred to me on the way over from my home at emerson that it is during such periods of unpleasant weather that we need to show the most dedication. frankly, life is unpleasant; something as simple as rain should not be what halts the movement. especially since, to my knowledge, there has not been too much organized activity (outside the tuesday vigils at copley) in the downtown area since the rally on the common.

despite what the news media communicates with us, that the US is nearing a quick "victory" , we are still very much at war. we need to keep up the resistance and continue to work for peace. recently, i have seen police vehicles sporting the "footprint of the American Chicken" sticker (refering to the peace symbol), which distresses me greatly for a number of obvious reasons. in light of the reported incident at UMASS,
(http://boston.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=13380&group=)
- which involves a variety of problems - it is clear that we will continue to face hositilities from our supposed community protectors.

personally, i am not a member of the Boston Campus Anti-War Coaliton. however, at emerson, there was at least word sent out about yesterday's event through BCAWC members, though i am dismayed that few showed up. i would STRONGLY URGE those involved in on-campus organizing to keep working, both in terms of advertising events effectively and actually showing up. also, please post announcements of future events on this site.

peace and solidarity!
