Two Chechen human rights experts will be speaking at UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, April 17th, from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Details follow in article. |

Two experts from the former Russian province of Chechnya will be speaking about human rights violations there on Thursday, April 17 at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Speakers Eliza Moussaeva and Bela Tsugaeva have been documenting abuses in the region for groups such as Memorial and the International Rescue Committee since the 1980s. They will be discussing offenses including torture, disappearances, rape, and executions committed by Russian forces and Chechen separatists in the war torn area. The discussion, sponsored by the UMD Chapter of Amnesty International, is free to the public and will take place in the library browsing area from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. |
