IRISH PEACE ACTIVISTS EXPRESS SOLIDARITY WITH 3
ARRESTED IN MA WHILE CONFRONTING RAYTHEON WAR CRIMES
Call on Nobel Winning M.P. to Use Influence to
Convince Massachusetts to Drop Charges

Lexington and Lawrence, MA, USA/ Derry, Ireland: The
Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign, a group based in
Derry, in the North West of Ireland that is working to
build a peace-based economy in a region plagued by
violence, issued has issued a public statement
expressing its support for and solidarity with three
activists working with the Lawrence, MA based
Massachusetts Anti Corporate Clearinghouse who were
arrested on Monday while they themselves were
attempting to carry out a citizens' arrest of Raytheon
CEO Dan Burnham at the company's Lexington, MA
headquarters.

Mary Kate Small, 40, of Andover, MA; George Corrette,
36, of Stoddard, NH; and Sean Donahue, 28, of Lawence,
MA; went to Lexingon, MA on Monday to attempt to
arrest Burnham for conspicacy to commit war crimes, a
charge stemming from the use of a Raytheon missile in
an attack on a civilian markeptlpace in Bagdhad that
killed 62 people on March 28. When a police line
prevented them from reaching the building where
Burnham works the three attempted to secure the
facility to prevent further war crimes by stretching
yellow "caution" tape across the facility's driveway.
At that point they were arrested and charged with
criminal trespass. They were arraigned in Concord
District Court, a stone-throw from the home of Henry
David Thoreau, and released on their own recognizance
pending trial.

At the invitation of local political leaders,
including Nobel Peace Prize Winner, John Hume,
Raytheon has established a software plant in Derry, in
the North West of Ireland. The Foyle Ethical
Investment Campaign (FEIC) has campaigned against the
presence of weapons makers in Derry.

Responding to these events in Derry, FEIC Spokesperson
Dr. Peter Doran
said:

"Just a couple of years ago, Daniel Burnham, the CEO
of Raytheon, strutted the streets of Derry with our
local Member of Parliament, telling us
what a fine job we had done on the 'peace process'.
The Raytheon Executive now finds himself the subject
of an attempted citizens' arrest for conspiring to
provide the U.S. government with the tools to commit
war crimes and crimes against peace in Iraq."

"Raytheon knowingly provided the means for the Bush
regime to violate the
First Protocol to the Geneva Conventions prohibiting
the use of weapons
and tactics that cannot discriminate between civilian
and military targets. Perhaps Mr Hume will see the
error of his ways and now use his political
influence in Massachussetts and ensure that those who
attempted to arrest
his friend, Burnham, are released immediately without
charge for their act of conscience and courage."The
FEIC stands shoulder to shoulder with Mary
Kate Small, George Corrette, and Sean Donahue."

Speaking for the Massachusetts Anti-Corporate
Clearinghouse, Sean Donahue said "Corporations now
drive our government's foreign policies. And as my
late friend and mentor Philip Berrigan said this
renders our government unable to disarm itself,
meaning that we, the people, must act to disarm our
government to prevent it from committing further war
crimes. This begins by cutting off the supply of
weapons from compaines like Raytheon. We stand in
solidarity with the Foyle Ethical Investment Campaign
and others around the world in confronting the
violence of the weapons industry."
