Somerville projectionists go on strike

by Paul Sherman (Boston Herald)
Saturday, May 3, 2003

Projectionists at Davis Square's Somerville Theatre have gone on strike for union representation.

The projectionists, citing low pay, poor benefits and unhealthy working conditions as the reasons for the action, are looking to join Local 182 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, according to its financial secretary, Glenn Dansker.

Somerville Theatre management said the strike will not cause any interruption of its scheduled movies.

The projectionists have been picketing since Thursday, not so coincidentally the beginning of the Independent Film Festival of Boston, which is screening more than half its movies at the theater.

The picketing has caused festival organizers to hand out their own flier, stating they are not affiliated with the theater, are merely renting auditoriums and are pro-union.

You can't cross a picket line and claim to be "pro-union".
can you say 'editorializing'? (english)

trust the herald to inject a note of sarcasm and doubt into this obvious case of labor oppression:
