"The Zarqawi PSYOP program is the most successful information campaign to date"
10 Jun 2006
Who would say such an outrageous thing?

Try Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, who was the U.S. military's chief spokesman when the propaganda campaign began in 2004.

Although Zarqawi and other foreign insurgents in Iraq have conducted deadly bombing attacks, they remain "a very small part of the actual numbers," Col. Derek Harvey, who served as a military intelligence officer in Iraq and then was one of the top officers handling Iraq intelligence issues on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told an Army meeting at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., last summer.
If you're going to debate the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and what it all means, you should hurry up and read this April 10 story from the Washington Post before it disappears down the memory hole.

It also contains this gem:

Although Zarqawi and other foreign insurgents in Iraq have conducted deadly bombing attacks, they remain "a very small part of the actual numbers," Col. Derek Harvey, who served as a military intelligence officer in Iraq and then was one of the top officers handling Iraq intelligence issues on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told an Army meeting at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., last summer.

In a transcript of the meeting, Harvey said, "Our own focus on Zarqawi has enlarged his caricature, if you will -- made him more important than he really is, in some ways."

"The long-term threat is not Zarqawi or religious extremists, but these former regime types and their friends," said Harvey, who did not return phone calls seeking comment on his remarks.

That doesn't mean that al-Zarqawi wasn't lower than pond scum -- he was -- or that killing him isn't a good thing...it is. But just keep in mind that while killing al-Zarqawi was a boon to U.S. strategy today, just a couple of months ago he appeared to be an important part of our strategy...alive.

The US Government isn't afraid of the Terrorist. They're afraid of their own people. Psyops goal is to get inside of the Heads of the US Population, not the Mid East Population. No matter who they Kill to do it.
