a variety of short news reports have appeared since Tuesday's protest, but none of them capture the intensity of anger and outrage that characterized the actual event |
1) Factual Indymedia Account - Panopticon
http://www.boston.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=16319&group=webcas
comment: minute by minute account of the situation as it unfolded. sticks to the facts with some bitter jibes against Aschroft thrown in.

2) North Adams Transcript - Julie Mehegan
http://www.thetranscript.com/Stories/0,1413,103~9054~1622716,00.html
comment: factual account of events inside and outside the hall, except for one glaring inaccuracy. the reporter says that the protestors were screaming obscenities at the departing attendees, whereas my own ears heard "TRAITOR! TRAITOR! SHAME!" being shouted. These are truths, not obscenities. The obscenities were being shouted on the opposite side of the building where Ashcroft was hustled out into his tinted window SUV.

3) Milford Daily News - Jennifer Peter

comment: fairly accurate account with extra historic details about Fanuiel Hall.
-----------------
4) Boston Channel 5 - Natalie Jacobson interview
http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/2467543/detail.html
comment: although it starts with a CoverGirl makeup ad, this short video clip is surprisingly good! Jacobson let's Ashcroft throw up his continual smokescreen about pursuing only those who violate the law. She presses him again and again on the issue of illegal detention of immigrants, which Ashcroft refuses to to admit!
-------------------------
5) Boston Globe - Joanna Weiss
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2003/09/10/ashcroft_visit_spar/
comment: decent account of the event, noting that Aschroft had a "long ovation" from his hand-picked audience, while the shouts of "traitor" could be heard outside. also, good to point out that Michael Capuano had an invite to attend, but chose to stay outside with the protestors. Right on, Michael!
-------------------------
6) Boston Herald - J. M. Lawrence
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2003/09/10/ashcroft_visit_spar/
comment: slightly sardonic account of the event, noting the irony of the private accolades vs. the public venom. also gives more quotes of protesters than other accounts, and provides the interesting detail that Ashcroft "walked the Freedom Trail" on Monday night. And yet he CLOSED Faneuil Hall for us on Tuesday!

7) NY Times - Reuters

the NY Times gives us a piece of bland drivel. they didn't even bother to send their own reporter to a protest of the head of the Justice Dept at Federal Hall, while our rights are being destroyed and the Constitution defiled???? Shame on the NY Times, peice of shit.

if anyone has audio or video clips, PLEASE post them on Indy! Anyone who was not there cannot possible understand the anger and rage that was vented on Ashcroft unless they hear it! |
