10/3 Revolutionary Women of Afghanistan talk at LPC (english)
26 Sep 2003
A presentation by Anne E. Brodsky, PhD on her new book 'With All Our Strength: The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan'
AN INCOMPLETE LIBERATION:
RAWA AND THE ONGOING STRUGGLE FOR AFGHAN WOMEN'S LIVES

Friday, October 3rd 7pm
The Lucy Parsons Center, 549 Columbus Ave.

A presentation by Anne E. Brodsky, PhD on her new book
'With All Our Strength: The Revolutionary Association of the Women of
Afghanistan'

"Anne Brodsky's book gives us a ring side view of this extraordinary women's movement that is as doggedly committed to the business of democracy as it is to the (vital) business of dreaming of another, better world. Each of us needs a little RAWA." -- Arundhati Roy

Book Description: 'With All Our Strength' is the inside story of this women-led underground organization and their fight for the rights of Afghan women. Anne Brodsky, the first writer given in-depth access to visit and interview their members and operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan, shines light on the gruesome, often tragic, lives of Afghan women under some of the most brutal sexist oppression in the world.

About the Author: Anne E. Brodsky is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology and Women's Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She is an expert on women and resiliency. Her accounts of RAWA have appeared in the Washington Post and In These Times and she has been working with RAWA for more than three years.

The Revolutionary Association of Women of Afghanistan: RAWA is the oldest political/social organization of Afghan women struggling for peace, freedom, democracy and women's rights in fundamentalism-blighted Afghanistan. Please contact them at http://www.rawa.org or RAWA, PO Box 374 Quetta, Pakistan.

The Lucy Parsons Center has a well-stocked bookstore with new and used books and more than 200 magazines, newspapers and journals, covering every wing of the progressive movement. We also carry posters, bumperstickers, t-shirt, cards, and pins. There are low-priced used and bargain books in addition to new titles, Spanish-language books, and children's books. We are easy to get to by T (Mass Ave or Symphony stops are closest) and bike. As with all events at Lucy Parsons this event is free and open to the public, donations are always welcome and needed.
