Clinton and Chomsky at Northeastern
11 Jan 2001
Tonight at Northeastern Bill Clinton and Noam Chomsky spoke at approximately the same time. I gave Clinton the finger.
Coming off the Orange Line for the Noam Chomsky lecture I was greeted with thousands of people lined up as far as the eye could see. At first I thought that I was going to be shut out of the chomsky lecture until I realized that there isn't this many people who have heard of chomsky. I asked someone what was the big event and he said that it was one of the world's biggest fascist leaders speaking at NU. I started guessing: Mayor Menino? No. Hitler is dead isn't he? GW Bush? No. Bill Clinton? Bingo - fourth guess!! People were lined up and scalping tickets to see an empty speach from a career criminal. I got pissed and nervous so I went over to the Chomsky speach.

Chomsky did his thing. I actually got kind of bored. The brain wasn't feeling very capable of thinking. The question period got a little more interesting. I thing the highlight was when a member of a socialist group attempted to ask a long question (or statement). It started with a spiel about imperialist class warfare labor intensive something or another (like i said brain was tired). The crowd quickly shouted down the speaker and chomsky called upon a vote. Unanimously people had enough of the socialist so we continued with Q&A. I didn't vote for either since i didn't want the lesser of two evils. I didn't want to shut the guy up but a question would have been appropriate rather than a long advertisement for socialism. Unfortunately that wasn't on the ballot so I grabbed some post-speach veggies w/ dip and left.

On the way out i found the intersection of huntington near Matthews arena blocked off. Perfect timing!! Cops had blocked off one block infront of the music hall for my hero Bill Clinton to make his getaway. People were all lined up behind barriers. At first i thought this was protesters but to my horror these were clinton admirers. People were screaming, "Bill, Bill, Bill!!" I was screaming, "Can I get just one photo of a cop sucking your dick?" Clinton didn't oblige (probably didn't hear me above the noise of his fans. I gave Clinton the finger and went on my way.
