A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.1MB) and quick download (3.2MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, Germany, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (October 31) is up at the websitehttp://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.1MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:40) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, Radio DeutscheWelle, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- The IRA has warned that the peace process will be deadlocked until the Unionists begin to keep their word. In Guatemala former paramilitaries released their hostages. The right-wing President of Columbia is losing the support of the citizens, in light of recent referendum and elections.
From Russia- Russia is backing a UN resolution against weapons deployment in space.
From China- Geo Bush’s rare press conference on Tuesday was widely critqued in the world media- here’s how China described it.
From Germany- First a review of the European press concerning the bombings in Iraq on Monday. The CIA says 2 of its civilian contractors in Afghanistan were ambushed on Monday. Human rights campaigners are calling for a probe into multinational companies and governments are profiteering from resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
From Cuba- First a Viewpoint on the deteriorating situation of the Allied troops who have invaded Iraq. Then a report on the government of Israel which is discouraging foreign support for the alternative and popular grassroots peace plan.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!

--Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
-Dwight D Eisenhower
