Has this IMC become fascist? I hope not. (english)

I've always wondered why Boston, a city as radical as San Francisco, has a lame IMC. Few people use it and few announcements are made concerning political events. Recent information indicates that Boston IMC should not be trusted. Sound's paranoid? It should sound paranoid, but the evidence is too strong to ignore. Check out the front page of Stop Fascism! and you'll see what I mean.

Avoid Boston IMC
By Stephen DeVoy

I've always wondered why Boston, a city as radical as San Francisco, has a
lame IMC.  Few people use it and few announcements are made concerning
political events.  Recent information indicates that Boston IMC should not
be trusted.  Sound's paranoid?  It should sound paranoid, but the evidence
is too strong to ignore.  Check out the front page of Stop Fascism! and
you'll see what I mean.

I've decided to take the following additional steps.  I am going to raise
money for the creation of another IMC in the Boston area.  I will have it
online within a couple of weeks.  The new IMC will be run by members of the
DisOrganized Resistance.  This will complement our plans for a replacement
for IMC software, which we are still going forward with.  This website, The
White Rose Journal will become the new form of IMC.  The new Boston IMC that
we will create will be provided for those that wish not to use our new
software and will be open to all, whether or not part of the DisOrganized
resistance.  It will be run by individuals that you know.  It will not be a
traditional IMC.  We will not seek to join the greater IMC collective.  It
will be anti-fascist.  Specifically, it will be open to online publishing by
anarchists, communists, progressives, and libertarians.  Explained
differently, it will be open along two dimensions: anti-authoritarianism and
leftism.  It will boldly and without remourse(sic) delete right-wing posts,
troll posts, and anything that supports aggression against foreign
countries, occupations, and other attrocities(sic).  This is not
censorship.  Censorship exists when no outlet for speech exists for a given
point of view.  The Internet is teeming with right-wing websites where
right-wing views can be posted.  We have no intention of funding the
right-wing or providing any kind of service to them.   In a nutshell, I
disagree with the IndyMedia philosophy that free speech for right-wingers
requires being raped (metaphorically) by the right-wing in our own house.

Later this week, a high level design of the new system will be published.  I
may seek a grant or some other form of funding to create the new software.
If I can obtain a grant, I will hire one or two other unemployed programmers
in the Boston Area (no, I'm not unemployed, but I was and I know what it's
like).  These other programmers will come from the activist community.

What a joke. (english)

Finally, a website for the paranoid-schizophrenic community! Nice job DeVoy.

BTW... what's with the registered copy rights on your writings? I thought you were an "anarchist". I have never heard of an anarchist using State-enforced copy rights before.
Interesting similarities, huh? (english)

Here is the official definition of the term "fascist", which you so lavishly throw about:

Fas·cism
Pronunciation: 'fa-"shi-z&m also 'fa-"si-
Function: noun
Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, fasces, group, from Latin fascis bundle & fasces fasces
Date: 1921

1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control
Hopefully doesn't start shit... (english)

Just wanted to post my thoughts on the "new IMC".

First of all, it will be closed-source software, an unnecessary step backwards from recent advances in open source software. Also, contrary to belief that progress should be based on cooperation rather than competition. DeVoy has said that this site and software is designed to "compete" with Indymedia.

The definition of censor in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is "to examine in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectionable".

This perfectly coincides with examining posts for right-wing views, and deleting them.

What DeVoy is trying to start sounds more like a planning board, which is not a bad idea. The way he is going about it however, I don't think is the best (closed-source, he and members of the "DOR" review posts and moderate). It all seems too centralized to me.

Indymedia isn't the greatest for planning. It is good for announcements of dates and events. The planning portion is better to happen in person, or in some closed forum that isn't accessible to any outside parties. I don't think that DeVoy's new site will do this (from what I have read, I understand that anyone will be able to read the posts).

If planning isn't its purpose, then I don't see why censorship will serve a purpose. Censorship of eccentric, meaningless, unknowledgable posts is okay, it simply serves to allow people to read facts and not senseless ranting.

This is just what Indymedia is doing with the hidden post feature. I think that they're doing a great job.

Just a few thoughts. Hopefully I'm not accused of being part of KOBE or taken as being agressive. I'm not, I'm just expressing my opinions. Let's not start an argument, let's start a DISCUSSION.
Lies... (english)

http://www.stop-fascism.org/

As much as I'd like this whole stupid thing to end, DeVoy is lying about me on his website.

I have no connection to IMC other than I post on it. He's referring to me knowing that "Friend" uses AOL. The only reason I knew this was because he posted his e-mail address as one @aol.com. It's not hard to deduce that he uses AOL from that.

"So, we have someone assisting KOBE, inside Boston IMC, communicating with the police."

He's assuming way too many things with this statement. Like I said, I got the fact he uses AOL from his posted e-mail address. Also, he's assuming that I am the same person as KOBE and am in communication with the police. His evidence for this isn't too convincing, just read the newswire "Veritas and other morons.".

Please, just let this end...it's quite frustrating, but also quite amusing that a 17-year-old suburban kid has achieved celebrity status on Boston Indymedia, as well as DeVoy's website.

It seems too easy. Ha.
