Troops Home Fast
Tuesday, 04 July 2006
2:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Organizer: Code Pink

On July 4th, 2006, the national Code Pink will launch an historic hunger strike called TROOPS HOME FAST in Washington, D.C. in front of the White House. While many Americans will be expressing their patriotism via barbeques and fireworks, they'll be fasting in memory of the dead and wounded, and calling for the troops to come home from Iraq. We're inviting people around the world to show their support for this open-ended fast by fasting for at least one day. Go to www.troopshomefast.org to learn more.

Code Pink Boston will be participating in the TROOPS HOME FAST both in solidarity with those who are fasting in DC and all across the country and to show the world that people in Boston are against the war.

Boston Code Pink will be combining fasting with world class fireworks and a (piped in) Boston Pops concert! We will meet at 2pm on Memorial Drive, Cambridge [Kendall Sq. T stop, head toward the Charles River, look for the fireworks barge and the Code Pink banner]. This will strategically position us for both a front row seat for the fireworks and a chance to interact with the huge crowd that will be gathering for the event.

Please join us! Those who want to fast that day are welcome to and those who don't are welcome not to! We'll all be in the PINK and be great support for one another.

Warning \ufffd you must be there by 3pm to sit with the group at the railing \ufffd it gets pretty crowded and our neighbors will not be happy about accommodating latecomers!

Location:
Cambridge [Kendall Sq. T stop, head toward the Charles River, look for the fireworks barge and the Code Pink banner].

Cost: free

comment to code oink's fasting announcment
07 Jul 2006
we (that would be a we of TWO, my partner and i) looked high and low for anti-war and other dissenting activities all day at the esplanade and surrounds. we found four women fasting with code pink. one of them was nice. two of them were cagey and cliquish and only seemed to want us to buy a 15 dollar t-shirt("well, of course for MEMBERS its TEN!"). The banner drop that was supposed to happen at 10am didn't(and didn't appear to have happened later either). the fourth didnt' bother her pretty head about us. dear me, what new separation is this between activists?

we also got up good an dearly to make it to a 10am banner drop which- never happened!!

thousands of folks who had been spoon-fed corporate news come to boston for the fourth of july. can't we do better than this? is this what spltting into young and old, anarchist and communist, new left and old left, security culture and open meetings, student and townie has done for us here? i'm sorry, but its pretty pathetic. . . . . . what can we do to change this? in a pretty lame desparation attempt we blew up 60 baloons and wrote stuff on them and put them on a bridge, but we didn't even have helium! god. . . . . .
