help compile an october events calendar!
29 Sep 2006
the underground collective is doing layout this weekend, and needs some events to list on our calendar - help us out!
dear friends and comrades,

as some of you know, for the past year i have been involved with the student underground collective, which democratically produces a monthly independent radical journal. in the past years, since its inception, the student underground has had some, even if very little, affiliation with
boston university and student culture. last year, the paper was in limbo- verging on some sort of disassociation, but never quite getting there.
well, this year it is time to break free of tradition and produce an effective activist paper for our boston communities.

firstly, we are changing the name to the underground. we want this paper to be accessible to all people - not just to read, but to be involved in as well. part of this change will be apparent in our meeting location, which is no longer at boston university. instead, they will be every sunday night at 9pm at the community church of boston (this is not confirmed yet! i'll keep ya'll posted). This no longer has anything to do with being a student paper - so i encourage you all to get involved if you would like.

secondly, there will be a focus to this paper. it will be a resource for people in boston who want to be active in their communities. this is not just for groups that have an explicit anarchist slant, but also for progressive, leftist (yes, even leftist), and radical groups who may not include "anarchy" in their mission statement: groups such as the food
project, earth works, jericho boston, and the sydney borum community health clinic (to name a few).

thanks to thomas at the lpc, there is already a comprehensive list of these projects that are available - and as soon as our first issue is
distributed and a mission statement compiled, we will certainly be reaching out to these groups.

also, our first layout is this weekend! meaning: if any of you know ANY activist/political/radical/amazing events that will be happening during the month of OCTOBER can you PLEASE email me all the essential information
(ie: what?when?where?) so that i can put it in our EVENTS calendar!
-ps. this can include on-going monthly events such as abc letter writing, books for prisoners, food not bombs etc. it can include things like womyn's open mics, radical queer spaces, political folk concerts etc.

this would help us out a lot as we try to get started with just a few of us in the collective.

with love and in solidarity,
alia
