Anti Television Poem
09 Feb 2001
Thi is a poem I recently worte about television and how it messed with your mind.
Television

Why do you think that cable is so cheap
When the shows cost so much to make each week
Networks sell your mind away
And corporations are willing to pay
They manipulate your senses
And tell you what to buy
You spend your cash on every trend
Your such a way cool guy
TV tells you happiness
Is bought with pricey clothes
The fuck with all your insecurities
And nobody even knows
TV tells you all in life
Exists before your eyes
No need to seek out knowledge
Submission makes you wise

MTV tells me whether
Musics good or not
I like it cause its sugarcoated
All the girls are hot
Life is sweet and its all good
Just blends from song to song
Hey buddy, if you dont live like this
There must be something wrong
Music isnt anything
Its made by big machines
Not by real musicians
So all the tracks are clean
So you like a band that isnt made
Packaged to be sold?
There must be something wrong with you dude
Wheres your cool blindfold?

Have you ever wondered
Why the news is really lame
OJ, Monica, Jon Benet
Tabloid is the game
You never hear of real news stories
'Cause the channels have been bought
You think Iran Contra is over?
News for you: its not
Guess who owns NBC
The General Electric corps
And guess who sold us all our weapons
During the Gulf War
Ever wonder why the coverage for that
Said that things were slow?
Why on Earth would they mess with numbers
And keep the casualties low?

Abercrombie makes me cool
'Cause I can blend right in
Nobody will notice my shortcomings
Standing outs sin
Some guy on TV had a visor
Now I wear one to school
Maybe they'll stop making fun of me
And girls will think I'm cool
Maybe if I dye my hair blond
I wont be so obscure
They're still making fun of me
I'll just have to try more
No one sees your true colors
When you keep the whole world blind
All this from a Gap commercial
TV fucks with your mind

The economy is being lead
Be screaming 3 year olds
Who want to buy the newest toy
And parents do what they're told
And little do these toddlers know
That little kids their ages
Are making all this plastic crap
For inhuman wages!
This is quite a nasty message
To send to todays youth
Take all you can, even what you don't need.
Society's only truth.
There have to be winners and losers today
We can't just coexist
We tell this to our impressionable children
They don't know what they've missed

I don't like to make decisions
Fine then, don't complain
When you pass the choices to a willing captor
And then they possess your brain
So crank the TV, buy a visor
Whatever you do don't think
But everything you hold near and dear
Could be taken away in a blink
When you put your life in the hands of another
You're selling them your soul
That goes for clothing, politics, opinions,
Even rock and roll
You trade a free life fighting for good
And make yourself blind if you dont like what you see
Enjoy bondage in a suburban neighborhood
You might as well be blind if you listen to TV
