Candlelight Vigil at N.E. Holocaust Memorial in Memory of Liu Chengjun
06 Jan 2004
Modified: 11:18:16 PM
December 30, 2003 (Boston) On March 5th, 2002, Chengjun Liu, with great courage, helped to broadcast the truth in China. He was one of the key persons to reveal the persecution of Falun Gong through China’s own state-run media. This unprecedented feat lasted uninterrupted for 40-50 minutes, reaching hundreds of thousands of Chinese people. (
On March 24, 2002, Liu was arrested for his involvement in the T.V. broadcast.

In September 2002, Liu was sentenced to 19 years in prison, and sent to the Jilin Forced Labor Camp.

Throughout Liu’s imprisonment he was subjected to severe persecution. Eyewitnesses reported in October 2003 that he was tortured beyond recognition. Despite his family’s repeated attempts to secure his medical parole, they were denied by Chinese authorities.

After more than 21 months of torture and abuse, at 4 a.m. on December 26, Liu died from his injuries. Liu’s body was cremated seven hours after his death with neither an autopsy performed nor the family’s consent.

Upon hearing this news, Falun Gong practitioners in New England held a candlelight vigil in memory of Chengjun Liu at the New England Holocaust Memorial.

This most recent death again reveals the true nature of what those in China face during detention. Among those accused of similar acts to reveal the truth is U.S. citizen Dr. Charles Lee. ( Since Charles’s detention in January, he has been beaten, force-fed, and is still being subjected to brainwashing daily. The U.S. Consulate in Shanghai reports that these brainwashing sessions have intensified over recent weeks.
