Democrat-led Congress Caves in to Bush: Approves Expanded Warrantless Wiretapping of Americans

Washington, D.C: In a move that the Washington Post called a "warrantless surrender," many Democrats in both houses of Congress joined Republicans in approving expanded powers to President Bush for electronic surveillance of U.S. citizens who call or send messages into or out of the country. Even as passage of the legislation gives expanded powers to the Bush Administration, it offers no protection to those whose communications are swept up in widespread searches.
