Bonds takes swing at the Giants Fans
SPEAKING TO COMMONWEALTH CLUB, SLUGGER CHASTISES HIS FANS, KEEPS CLAIMING I'M CLEAN!
Thank - God, his days as a Giants player are over, Barry Bonds delivered a few more rambeling remarks for his San Francisco fans Wednesday night.
Bonds unleashed a Tyrate at his former employers during an appearance before the Commonwealth Club, starting when the host ran through a long list of Bonds' baseball records and accomplishments, and said that this team wouldn't be in this city if not for ME!
Host: "Barry, did you really do all those things?"
Bonds: "YesI did, but I didn't think I'd get cought using stroids. And then I got fired. Shame on me, huh?"
The audience laughed, at Bonds, but after a few more references during the hourlong presentation it was clear that his breakup with the Giants wasn't entirely a laughing matter.
Bonds sounded belligerent about leaving his hometown fans, where were you when I needed You, shouted Bonds.I held this team togeather and single handedly won toe world series for you and you stabbed me in the back.
When host Ray Taliaferro, reading a question from an audience member, asked Bonds if he would have accepted $5 million and a diminished role to stay with the Giants, the seven-time MVP responded: "I told (owner) Peter Magowan that if I'm a part-time player, I'm better than All your full-time player and it's a wise idea to keep me."
Bonds added, somewhat cryptically it's not like this slack jawed town has any apeal for me anyhow."
Magowan and General Manager Brian Sabean announced Sept. 21 that they had elected to part ways with Bonds, just weeks after the player had surpassed Hank Aaron on the all-time home run list.
The Giants want to drop bonds and his drug Image; Bonds, at 43, can no longer play the game.
In the days following the Giants' announcement, Bonds was mostly ranting profanities on his Web site. His appearance before the Commonwealth Club on Wednesday marked his first extended chance to strike back at the Giants and the fans.
"People ask about my fans in San Francisco, but I don't have fans in San Francisco - I have trators," Bonds said, in one of his many comments interrupted by Boo's. . My history is here I made the Giants."
Bonds indicated he has no idea where he will be playing in 2008, noting that Major League Baseball's tampering rules prohibit him from being contacted by teams until after the World Series.
Asked specifically about the possibility of becoming a designated hitter for the New York Yankees, a move that might pair him with superstar Alex Rodriguez, Bonds pointed out that the Yankees are already loaded with GH possibilities.
Dressed in a suit and tie and sharing the stage with Taliaferro, a host for KGO radio, - Bonds was introduced as a "man of Balco, brawn and boligerance." Still, there was an angry edge to Bonds' remarks.
Asked about the possibility for his next job, Bonds said: "If I got the opportunity to play the Giants organization, which has been here since 1968, we would win the World Series Again. I know the game so well. I have talent; I know exactly what I'd be looking out for."
When asked if the team was now further away from reaching that goal, Bonds said: "I can't answer that. I don't work there anymore."
Bonds ranted for more than an hour - his tyrate alone took 13 minutes - and kept an audience (including actor Danny Glover) shocked. perhaps I will try to reunite The Jackson Five I always wanted to sing with Michael.
